周品瑜（江齊 飾）是一名紀錄片導演，因拍攝需求前往監獄訪問連續殺人犯李壬曜（曾敬驊 飾）。初次見面，她便對這名曾殺害十人的年輕人產生強烈的熟悉感，而對方的清澈眼神與寧靜氣質，更讓她難以將他與惡名昭彰的罪行聯繫在一起。當晚，她意外夢見自己與李壬曜親暱互動，而這不僅是偶然，因為自此之後，她開始頻繁夢見詭異場景，甚至遭遇靈異現象。
某天，她撞見一名穿著高中制服的少女鬼魂江曉彤（李沐 飾），對方不僅影響她的夢境，甚至附身於她，帶領她踏上一條通往過去的探索之路。隨著深入調查，周品瑜發現江曉彤與李壬曜之間有著複雜且不為人知的過去，而江曉彤的執念，似乎只為了見一個人。
《如果我不曾見過太陽》在懸疑推理的外殼下，講述的是關於愛、救贖與執念的故事。本劇特別選擇以男性視角展開愛情線，顛覆傳統台劇以大女主為主的敘事模式。製作人麻怡婷曾提及，近年台劇以女性角色為核心的愛情作品居多，而本劇希望透過李壬曜的視角，刻畫一段既黑暗又純粹的情感糾葛。導演之一的簡奇峯認為，親自執導能幫助演員更貼近角色狀態，讓故事的情感更加飽滿，而攝影師出身的蔣繼正則強調影像質感與戲劇張力，為整部劇打造獨特氛圍。
Zhou Pinyu (played by Jiang Qi) is a documentary filmmaker who visits a prison to interview serial killer Li Renyao (played by Tseng Jing-hua) for her project. Upon their first meeting, she feels an intense sense of familiarity with the young man who had murdered ten people. His clear eyes and serene demeanor make it difficult for her to associate him with such infamous crimes.
That night, she unexpectedly dreams of an intimate interaction with Li Renyao. But this is no mere coincidence—ever since then, she begins to frequently experience bizarre dreams and even supernatural encounters.
One day, she encounters the ghost of a high school girl, Jiang Xiaotong (played by Li Mu). Not only does the spirit influence her dreams, but it also possesses her, leading her on a journey to uncover the past. As Zhou Pinyu delves deeper into the mystery, she discovers a complex and hidden connection between Jiang Xiaotong and Li Renyao. And Jiang Xiaotong’s lingering obsession seems to be for one reason alone—to see someone one last time.
